Quantum Communications and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) are key areas of quantum technologies that, by relying on the fundamental laws of nature (quantum physics), provide proven and unconditional security for information transmission between users. Given the growing threat posed by quantum computers to public-key cryptographic infrastructures, Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), as a physical-layer security solution, plays a vital role. This intensive course is designed to introduce the principles of Quantum Key Distribution and provide an analytical overview and review of several important Quantum Key Distribution protocols. The course provides the knowledge required for an in-depth understanding of the operating principles, theoretical security, and practical limitations of these protocols.
