Quantum communication networks: Opportunities and challenges

Data security in the quantum era is one of the most important challenges facing telecom operators. With the rapid growth of quantum computing technologies, the need to implement protocols that guarantee data security without relying on computational complexity has become more pressing than ever. Fortunately, quantum technologies provide a way that potentially solves this problem. In this approach, known as quantum key distribution, it becomes possible to detect eavesdropping during key distribution by sending signals as weak as a single photon. However, implementing these systems will not come without challenges. In this talk, after explaining how these quantum protocols work, the challenges and hopes ahead will be discussed.
