
Despite the brilliant successes of quantum mechanics in explaining laboratory data, due to some fundamental issues such as the measurement problem and the time problem, the predictions of this theory are not completely unambiguous and unique in some cases. In particular, there exist different predictions for the spatiotemporal distribution of particle detection events that have resulted from different formulations and interpretations of quantum theory. Although the differences are usually small, recent studies show that these predictions can be distinguished by single-atom interferometry, which is achievable using today's technologies. In this talk, I explain that conducting such experiments, in addition to enriching our understanding of the foundations of quantum mechanics, can also significantly contribute to advancing quantum technologies.
